DJW has a health care plan

Hillary Clinton has a health care plan. Barack Obama has a health care plan. John McCain will be visiting Cuyahoga County tomorrow to tout his health care plan. AND DJW, THE BUCKEYE RINO, HAS A HEALTH CARE PLAN! Can we vote Daniel Jack Williamson as a write-in for U.S. President?
The basic premise of the DJW health care plan is that the health care insurers do not operate within a competitive marketplace. They enjoy captive markets, so consumers get screwed. Campaign contributions from PAC's helped get legislation passed over the past generations to shield health care insurers from fierce competition. So, the DJW health care plan calls for drastic marketplace reforms.
Let's first assess some of the common problems we, the consumers, face.

Why is that?

As my campaign begins to take on a life of it's own, I've been privileged to be able to research many issues, some that I might not have otherwise been drawn to.  We all know the front page issues like the economy, the housing crisis and health care.  But what many of us fail to realize, is that there are some real serious issues in our communties that have been largely ignored.  I want to focus on one issue in particular; HIV/AIDS.

In my research, I have found some startling statistics.  Here's just a few about our own city:

1.  St. Louis city has the fifth highest HIV infection rate per capita in the country.

2.  St. Louis city has the highest number of STD infections per capita in the country.

3.  1/5 of all new HIV infections are caused by intravenous drug use.

4.  Black Americans represent 60 percent of all AIDS cases.

5.  30 percent of our prison population is infected with the HIV virus.  read more »

And the US dollar continues to be subject to political manipulation.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran, OPEC's second-largest producer, has stopped conducting oil transactions in U.S. dollars, a top Oil Ministry official said Wednesday, in a concerted attempt to reduce reliance on Washington at a time of tension over Tehran's nuclear program and suspected involvement in Iraq.

Iran has dramatically reduced dependence on the dollar over the past year in the face of increasing U.S. pressure on its financial system and the fall in the value of the American currency.
Oil is priced in dollars on the world market, and the currency's depreciation has concerned producers because it has contributed to rising crude prices and eroded the value of their dollar reserves.  read more »

Don't Reinvent the Wheel

I don't say this often and usually look at things with a healthy dose of skepticism. However, this is a such a wonderful idea. It's called the "HealthCare Innovations Exchange" - a government website that offers visitors a compendium of tried and tested innovations across the healthcare sector.AHRQ Logo

Unnatural Causes: Minorty health care must take precedence

by

Latinos have ascended to the largest minority population in the United States, comprising almost 16% of the total population in the country. With this unprecedented number, we have yet to fully discern the full range and impact of the challenges our communities face. It is clear, however, that health care is an often devastating challenge confronting millions of Hispanics.  read more »

Social Media in HC Presentation

When I was posting the uninsured presentation, I stumbled upon this.  It is a good summary of some of the things going on in the industry today.

My trip to the hospital turns into a column idea

<!--StartFragment-->

This Friday we have a column due, and I've decided to write about the hospital bill I received last Thursday at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C.

I was going a little crazy out on my granddaddy's farm while 4-wheeling with my 12-year-old cousin Abby. Earlier in the morning, we were going up a hill and I was in the wrong gear, and when I went to shift, the bike started sliding backwards. I lost control of the steering and we ended up tipping over. Luckily Abby had a cell phone and we called her dad to come help tip the bike back over. We kept high-fiving one another, surprised as hell that we neither of us were hurt.  read more »

Facts About The Uninsured

The Robert Woods Johnson Foundation has a project called Cover The Uninsured.  As we all know, this is a major issue which is only getting more pressing with the economy the way it is today.  With food going up and gas going up, it is putting more and more economic pressure on people.

Granted...not all the uninsured are uninsured due to their economic condition, but even those that think they are invincible would be better off with some safety net.

I point this out since this is Cover the Uninsured Week (April 27, 2008 - May 3, 2008).

Here is a slideshow of data from their website:
